Discover

«Ελευθερία»

Greek for "freedom." The middle finger of Halkidiki, less developed than its neighbours, with empty beaches at the end of every dirt road.

Sixty kilometres,
almost empty.

Sithonia is the middle of Halkidiki's three peninsulas, pine-covered, mountainous, and quieter than the holiday strip on Kassandra. A single coastal road loops the perimeter, dropping into bay after bay of clear water and white sand.

Inland, mountain villages, monasteries, and Porto Carras, one of Greece's larger wineries, keep things interesting on the days when even another beach feels like too much.

What's Here

01

Kavourotrypes

A series of small coves with white rocks and turquoise water. The most beautiful slice of the eastern coast.

02

Mount Itamos

The peninsula's spine. Hiking trails up to old monasteries with views over both coastlines and Mount Athos beyond.

03

Porto Carras

One of Greece's biggest wineries. Tours, tastings, and a long stretch of beach by the resort.

04

The Athonite View

From Sithonia's eastern coast you can see Mount Athos rising across the gulf, closest the secular world gets.

Stay on the Peninsula

Asterios' House

A four-bedroom traditional house above the bay. Hosted by Asterios and his father Nikos for thirteen years.
